I was having the same problem, and today I found out (on Steam forums) that that is not small text, but garbled text, and no amount of anlarging it will make it readable. That's because you are playing the game in a language other than English (mine was Brazilian Portuguese). You have to set the game language to English for the map text to appear correctly.

Here's hoping they fix that as soon as possible. That map text helps a lot when navigating those labyrinthine corridors and non-English speakers are missing out on that bit of help.
