I'm usually more a fan of "might" than "magic" when it comes to RPGs, and so in SS2 I've been mostly relying on weapons and haven't done any upgrades at all to any PSI abilities. I'm still early in the game, but I'm wondering if this will work in the long run.

Is a build based on hacking + weapons viable in this game, or will knowledge of PSI become critical later on? I don't want to spend my points on technical and weapons skills only to find out later that the game is impossible or very difficult to beat.

It's more than viable. On your first playthrough, I don't recommend investing in PSI at all.

Finished it without spending a single point on PSI.
That's (one of the reasons) why it's a great game, it gives you options to finish it how you want.

Enjoy your exploration of that spooky spaceship and remember, all of us who already played the game are quite jealous at you atm. :D
Thank you, zazak and BranjoHello.
psi is for veteran players who enjoy rumblers haplessly attacking doing 1 damage per slash, only to be slain by one swoop of the psi sword once they get bored.
I'm thinking of taking the Kinetic Redirection, since I've come across an object or 2 I can't reach (nothing too important). Will this be a good investment for later?

I just have no modules to spare. I need to up my Maintenace because my weapons are getting too poor too fast (and I'm only using guns against cameras and strong enemies; all weak ones are dying by the wrench).
