any idea where I can get the HD textures mod? I find it hard to get intimidated by the Changelings and cyborgs when they are all made out of Halloween masks held together with clay and duck pate and the worms look more like Pot noodles. I think it would also make the Chrysalis level even more frightening than it already is what with the jumping puzzles on gnashing teeth and prefontaine's panicked logs about the crew being eaten alive.

a mod for slightly better textures is included in SSP, but that's it as far as I'm aware, and as no tools and editors were released for SS1, the situation is not likely to improve unless someone makes a full engine replacement with such tools included. but we are yet to see a fully working engine replacement that would allow 3d models and other goodies - Shock1 is somewhat cursed in this area, there have been quite a few attempts to recreate the engine, and they have all failed so far. the only thing that is in a playable state is SHLink, a SS1 loader for windows - while not offering any visual improvements like 3d acceleration, is does make the game run really nice on virtually any windows system, and is superior to SSP in performance and audio quality. the downside is the max resolution (just the orig 640*480 vs SSP's 1280*1024), and the complete lack of music (can be sort of fixed by downloading the music and playing it via some media player in the background).

but maybe we'll get lucky eventually.
