Is it possible to set some kind of key binding to temporarily disable all HUD elements? It would be lovely to be able to go HUDless as much as possible.

yes, I think this is possible. check the NewDark documentation.

Seems like I can permanently disable the HUD by changing "d3d_disp_2d_overlay_alpha" to 0.0 in cam_ext; it would be nice if I could switch between having HUD and no-HUD though.

I don't think real time switching is possible.
