Well... I'm fairly sure GOG just distributes the music files as-is, ripped directly from the game itself. I can see the issue you'd have with it tho - some tracks are just designed to only be in the background, while others ... Well ... Aren't. Making the former louder would definitely not hurt.

ZylonBane: See people, this is the sort of brain damage that the loudness war has caused. Now we're stuck with an entire generation that expects every track to be at the same volume level.
Elitist much?

Oh, why am I even asking, of course you are. I mean seriously, attacking someone for used language, that's just... Ugh.

Especially when his request has little to do with the "loudness war."

Ghostbreed: The hell's that supposed to mean? That Swedes are unable to learn other languages because we're so full of ourselves?
Apparently you are unaware that English is the native language of the United States. Otherwise you wouldn't ask such a silly question.

It also helps to understand that we tend to not be multilingual, with exceptions, of course. Most of us have no reason to speak more than one language. Higher education does often require us to take foreign language classes. Our education system is based on memorizing the minimum amount of required info, and not actually learning things, so even then we stay monolingual. Because this is the norm for us, we project on to other cultures. Americans often comment on forums about how people from other countries speak English well. Its not meant to be derogatory. We think of it as something special, because it is something special by our standards. Any perceived insult is due to cultural misunderstanding.
