Hi guys, I think I got thrilled by that SS2 buzz and I consider buying this game. It is a legend, it is top rated. But one question bothers me. Do I need to play SS1 before starting SS2? In games like Fallout or Gothic sequels there were many references to previous parts, and recognizing them was really joyful. How about SS2? Will I miss something if I begin it without playing SS1?
you don't need to play the first game to enjoy the second especially since about half-way through the game gives you the jist of what happens in the first game.

you can also check out system shock lore in a minute: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Geelprw3KkM
no, you don't need to - just read the wiki article about SS1 and that should allow you to catch the few references found in the second game.

btw, there is a free demo (training and the first part of medsci deck) you can try out - pretty sure you will be hitting the purchase button on GOG even before finishing it.
