I got the game on GOG and played some, then got the arena standalone on steam. I noticed the Arena standalone had my same levels and upgrades I'd gotten in the GOG version. Does this mean progress is shared between versions? And more importantly, does this mean buying the Arena upgrade on Steam could unlock Arena on the GOG version?

If the save is in the same separate folder and not in the Steam/GOG AppData folder, there's a chance both builds can acess it, if that's the case it's pretty neat in some ways because you can swap from one to another.
