Hi all
I was very excited to see Syndicate Wars here - even though I already own the original game on CD, I bought it again on the basis that GOG had stepped in and got it working well on modern machines. Yes, I am aware of the port, but it runs too fast and doesn't seem to be being actively developed any more.
So - immediate problems. Syndicate Wars loads ok, intro plays ok, etc, and the menus work ok for me once I dial down DosBox a bit (set too high IMHO), but -
When I actually play, after 10-20 minutes, the mouse goes crazy. It flicks to the left hand edge of the screen and stays there. I can move it up and down, but not side to side. If I change resolution and back (with F8), it is then stuck moving up and down in the middle of the screen, instead of the left hand edge.
The mouse is a USB Razer gaming mouse. No funky mouse software running. System runs absolutely minimal, just antivirus and Catalyst control centre running over vanilla Windows 7.
Does anyone know what the problem is?
I'm pretty annoyed. I've re-bought a game I already own and the new version simply doesn't work properly. Especially annoying because the fact that it works for a while means you can get nice and engrossed in a mission and then BAM, no more mouse, no chance to finish the mission.
Before I get a series of answers for dummies:
1. The machine is a modern machine running Win 7 x64.
2. The machine runs all modern and older games fine.
3. I can run anything else I like in DoxBox without this problem, including numerous other GOG games.
4. I am aware of the port and it runs too fast on my machine so is not a solution for me, plus I want the version I paid for to work properly.
Frankly, I think it's a bit disappointing that GOG have just whacked Syndicate Wars into DosBox - anyone can do that.
