Greetings!

Recently, after a new computer, fresh install, and getting started on a return to this old favorite of mine, I found myself thinking it was running slow and something was wrong. The research was taking a long time to complete, and the game just felt sluggish. Cranking the CPU cycles up several times higher than how the game came configured seemed to do the trick. You can do this temporarily in game by pressing CTRL+F11 to slow or CTRL+F12 to speed up DOSBox's emulated CPU cycles. If you switch to windowed mode with ALT+ENTER, you can see the changes at the top of the window. I finally settled on 64000 cycles.

To make the change permanent for this game and add a little extra functionality to the speed increments, you will need to locate the game's installation folder. For me, it is located at the default location.

This PC> Windows (C:)> Program Files (x86)> GOG Galaxy> Games> Syndicate Plus

Navigate your way there with File Explorer,
Inside the folder, look for a file named: dosboxSyndicate.conf
Right click on that file and select "Open With". Use Notepad to open it.
Scroll down until you see the following.

core=auto
cputype=auto
cycles=8000
cycleup=500
cycledown=500

Change the cycles, cycleup and cycledown to 64000. Here's what those settings lines looked like in the end.

core=auto
cputype=auto
cycles=64000
cycleup=64000
cycledown=64000

Close and save the file, and then give the game a try! You can change these numbers up or down to suit your computer or play pacing.

I started out using 128000 cycles. The game ran fine, but it felt a little too fast paced on the game's calendar clock. I also changed the cycleup and cycledown 64000 because that way I can increase or decrease the game speed at will while playing using CTRL+F12 & CTRL+F11. This helps with generating income and speeding along the research.

This fix also seemed way easier than some of the other attempts at solutions I was reading.

Anyway, I hope this helps!

This helps a bit but the issue is that all the enemy agents get activated at once. When I played this back in the day, they had a more phased approach. The problem now is that you can pretty much just equip four miniguns and let all the enemies come to you.

The speed fix slows that down a bit but they still all come as one.
