I'm pretty sure I can't do anything to make this better, but I have to ask to be sure. My questions are:

1) Is there a way to alter the graphics i.e. the font to make it more clear? On my computer there is this backlight effect on the font and I can barely make out what the words are, and sometimes it takes me five to ten minutes to figure out what the font says due to the backlight that connects the letters at times and makes it difficult to read.

2) Is there a guide for using the DOSBOX Graphic Mode Setup program listed in the start menu? Because I have no clue as to how to use that thing.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Yes you can, open Graphic Mode Setup in Start Menu -> GOG.com -> Syndicate. Click on Advanced Settings tab and change Scaling Engine from normal2x to hq2x then click Save Settings and Start Game, you will see the difference now as smoothened fonts (at least they are not pixelated now). Next time you will run game from desktop shortcut it will run in hq2x mode. You may try other Scaling options but hq2x is most optimal for me (not perfect but original fonts in Syndicate are beyond salvation if you want them more rounded and clear the other way) as it was the same one in Raptor 2010 edition.

I did what you said it I can read the font now great! But now the game screen has shrunk to its windowed size while Not being in windowed state, rather there is a black border that takes up the difference. Is there a way to alter this further so that the game screen can be at least more than a couple of inches wide?

Thanks again for the information and thanks in advance for any help you can give! Now I don't have to squint at the words anymore.:)

It's rather odd, but you can edit dosboxSyndicate.conf in your game folder in WordPad and change settings to:

fullscreen=true
fulldouble=false
fullresolution=original
windowresolution=original

Also good thing is if in your graphic card settings you have set Scaling to fullscreen to fill entire thing instead of Keep aspect ratio or Center it. I have options above set with scaling to fullscren but unfortunately these two black borders will be no matter what you set. Harcoded resolution for in-game, strategic screen is 640x480.
