A fix for me (Win7 64bit) was running the game from the graphic setup button.

any work around?
I used the I believe it's called the graphics window, play around with it and it seem to work just fine. though you have to start the game each time like to work.

None of the above worked for me however after Running as Administrator AND Setting a different location to install (via Options on the Installer) it started working.
