I do not appear to be getting a save file. Syndicate will beep as if something occured when I enter a name and click save, but when I go back to the load/save area all the file are listed as empty.

Saving does not change the name. You should be able to save in any slot, but you will have to manually change the name of the save file to something besides empty. I played through a good half of the game, saving after each level, with out changing the name.

Yes, I do manually change the name of the save file. I then click save. However, when I return to the save/load menu there are only "empty" save files and attempting to load the file I saved results in a default first level load.

I should add that I did not install this game into my program directory, but rather to D:\GOG, so the stickied solution does not apply to me. I hope someone has an answer as I'd like to play this game more than just past the first few levels.

Just wanted to add, that I had the same issue.
Installed on D: drive rather than default. Reinstalled as admin, and I don't seem to have the problem now. Come to think of it- perhaps I hit load rather than save, after typing in the name of the savegame.
