Upon launching Syberia I it comes up with the error:

"the 3d rendering engine could not be initialized" and crashes. The store page says this works on Windows 10 (which I'm using, 64-bit, GTX 970, latest drivers). What the hell, GOG? I paid for this game to fucking work.

Hey, I had the same issue. I fixed it like this:

Go to where the game is installed (in my case, C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Syberia)
Right click over Syberia.exe. Properties > Compatibility > Check Reduce color mode 8-Bit. Click Apply
Do it also on Change settings for all user, just in case.
Click Ok

Now you should be able to run the game.

Use dgvoodoo2. Not compatibility needed nor 8 bit fix, using dgvoodoo2 the game runs at proper speed and 32 bit colour.

Hmm, unfortunately the fix didn't work for me. I switched to 8-Bit color mode, applied Windows XP Service Pack 2 compatibility, changed for all users and ran as administrator. No luck...

Game works great here, Win10x64, version 1709, build 17025, RX-480 8 GB, latest Crimson drivers (17.11.1)--no compatibility modes needed @ 2560x1440p. So there is hope for you..;) Have you tried rolling back your drivers? I don't use nVidia, but I have read many a game-forum complaint with nVidia drivers and relatively recent games wherein a rollback to earlier drivers seems to fix things.

Why would you blame GOG, though?...;) GOG isn't the game developer and has nothing to do with your GPU drivers, etc. Good luck! Game's a bargain @ $15.

If your monitor's resolution higher than 1980x1080, change to 1080p, it works for me.

I'm playing Syberia three and currently on the boat leaving the village. The water just froze and I have to fire up the engines below. I am supposed to pick up a box of matches at deck level. I can see the matches lying on the floor, but they are not active, I cannot pick them up. I can also not interact with any other items, so I am royally stuck. How can I solve this??
