Hi all,

thanks to GOG I can now play again this games, which happen to be amongst my favourite. I installed Syberia II with the Italian installer. But weird enough some cut scenes are still in english. For example ordinary game dialogues are properly translated. But cutscenese where people in the office in NY are looking for Kate appear to be in english, with italian subtitles. Any reason for that?

Thanks!

YouTube confirms that these scenes were translated (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yceNJhZKX2w e.g. at 2:40 min). So the question is, whether this is an issue of the GOG version or an error on your system. Unfortunately, I don't have Syberia 2 on GOG, so I can't check it, but what you can do is look into the game's video folder. There are all cutscenes formated as .bik files, which you can open with Rad Video Tools (http://www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm) But be careful not to spoil the story. I don't know where the sound is stored, because it's possible to store several tracks inside a bik-file as well as mix them from an external source (e.g. .ogg files).
When you start RAD Tools and browse for a .bik-file, you can select it and hit the "File info" button. If there are several audio tracks embedded, it'll show:
Track ID:0 ...
Track ID:1 ...

If so, you can hit the "Advanced play" button and write a track ID in the field "Play these sound track ids:"
Play the video and check the tracks for Italian. If it's there, we have to look why it's not playing on your system (maybe it already will, after installing RAD Tools and its codes).

Hi first of all thanks for replying. I installed the RAD tools as adviced. As you say, I try to open some files but not knowing the correspondencies causes a risk to spoil the story. I still checked randomly some of the files and I could see that there are some with multiple audio tracks. Is there anybody willing to try the italian installer to check if it's corrupted? I would be really grateful!!
UPDATE: I checked the video called CIN10000_Romansbourg.bik. It indeed has multiple languages, the Italian track being n. 04. Then why does the game play the English track?

I'd try reinstalling it, as the language is set during installation by the downloaded version (make sure it's the Italian ;-)
Maybe a setting is messed up and this'll fix it.

Before that, you can also try moving the Config.dat out of the "Syberia 2 Saves" folder, as it contains the (maybe faulty) configuration. Also don't use this file with the reinstalled version, but let it create a new one.

I tried to follow all these instructions but I still have the same problem. I am starting to think it's a bug in the installer :-(

I eventually bought Syberia 2 to check this first hand (and to complete the series on GOG ;-) and yes, it's a bug.
I wouldn't have noticed, because the English version runs fine, but the Italian doesn't. Anyway, to be correct, it was a bug, because GOG realized this as well and provided a patch today! Just download the "Language fix" for your installed version, run it as administrator and the issue will be gone. I tested this with the Italian version.

Thanks, I have been contacted by the support team and I downloaded the patch. I installed it right away, I am now proceeding through the game. I hope that everything will be fine now. Amazing work from the support staff here at GOG!!!
