So, I just picked up both games, and have spent the last half an hour walking sloooooowly up and down the one street at the beginning. I'm looking for a notary. The character takes so.... un... be... lieve... ably long to walk across the screen most of my time has been spent just sitting and watching. Literally the only thing I hear is "No need to go down there! No need to go down there! No need to go down there!" I can't find the bloody notary. The innkeep's advice that "you can't miss it" obviously was not correct. I have walked up and down this street so many times, and frankly, I simply cannot tolerate one more trip, given how slooooooooowly the character moves and the complete and utter lack of ANYTHING to click on.

What am I doing wrong? Why would anybody enjoy this? Feeling bummed out that I just got burned out of the $8 or so I spent.
Double click can make you run, but I prefer to walk in town to match the environment :)

The town is one-way road and the only thing I missed is the factory entrance, ended up looking at youtube to find it.
Keep looking and you should meet the notary.

The character walks awfully slowly indeed, double clicking for running makes it a little better... unless there are some stairs in your way...

Anyway, to find the notary you need to get out of the inn and TURN LEFT. You go along the only street that is accessible to you and you need to walk/run for around 3 or 4 screen folds. You would pass the bakery first with a man in front of it, who says that the bakery is closed due to the funeral. After passing the bakery, a few buildings further to the left there is the notary - you can find a newspaper on a branch right in front of it. The door to the notary is closed and there is a figure on the wall right next to it. To get inside you need to hand a telegram to that figure...

I hope that would help you a bit.

You seem kind of stupid. I suggest you play Call of Duty on your Xbox instead.
Thank you to those of you who gave helpful responses! (And less than thanks for those with less-than-helpful responses.)

Once I found the notary (thanks to cornica) and learned how to run, the game picked up. I'm working my way through and haven't needed any other help thus far... so far so good!

Atmosphere in the game is quite nice, but boy is there a lot of walking, ha ha. I will keep going and hope to update later with more positive and glowing comments!

Personally I found that a walkthrough to consult every so often made the game more enjoyable. Some of the puzzles are just pixel hunting, and that's just not fun. I think they realised that the walking was getting annoying, as the game does move at a faster pace towards the end, and the areas are smaller and more focussed.
