I found that the game has crashed twice so far whilst in the aviary after retrieving the Sauvignon berries. The first time it happened after looking at the bird eggs on the automaton eagle, then descending the first set of ladders. The second time happened after the first instance, except Kate had actually made it to the ground and was wandering around in an adjacent area.
I have:
Windows XP, latest Nvidia drivers (GeForce 7900 GS), Syberia 3 patch, and a save file before ascending the ladder to look at the eggs. The game was installed before the new installer released 2 days ago.
I will:
Download the install files again overnight (slow internet here), reinstall, and check for crash once more.
Debug.log reveals (after 2nd crash):
Activation closeup item named 'Prendre l'oeuf'
Warping from 21230 to 21220...Ok
Activation item named 'Descendre...'

Game crashed after reinstallment with a whole bunch of fun graphical glitches so I applied patch 3 and was able to make it past the previous crashes. So we'll see how that goes.
Link for Syberia patch 3 in case anyone needs it: http://www.fileshack.com/file.x/1397/Syberia+Retail+Patch+SP3
Game crashed twice now when after collecting eggs with tongs:
Activation item named 'Vol au dessus d'un nid de coucou'

D: frustrating
I also have this problem- the game goes no further either with Kate on the ladder going down from the eagle's nest, or close to the ladder after she reaches the ground. Would appreciate a fix if one exists.
thanks, Garry
Reb the great, it appears to be a Windows xp problem. I have a desktop with Windows XP, and a notebook with Vista, and in Vista I have got past the aviary. In fact, I am at the moment in Aralbad. I don't know why, but it goes no further in XP, and my video driver is up to date, and I went to Windows update before I tried to play the game in XP again.
Garry
I'm getting the same problem. It randomly occurs when going down either ladder after retrieving the egg. The game doesn't crash though, and in fact one time the glitch happened soon enough in the transition that the model continued it's breathing animations, so the game wasn't frozen. Nonetheless, the menu cannot be accessed during these transitions, so the only recourse is to tab out to the desktop and kill it from there.

1.5 GB ram
Geforce 5200 FX 128 MB graphics card (this POS only has old-style PCI slots). Latest drivers (at least for this old card).
Windows XP SP3. It's not patched in many months though. I'm running a stripped version that no longer passes WGA. I've got a legit disc, but my computer is crappy enough without that extra rubbish weighing it down.

I found a fix for those without access to Vista/7!
I ran the game in Windows 98 compatibility mode. I set it on both syberia.exe and game.exe, just to make certain. I was able to get past the section without a hitch (short of little framerate hiccups, but that could have been coincidental). The only issue I encountered is that I had to move the savegame directory "Syberia Saves" from My Documents to the game's own directory, as that's where it looks under Win98.
After passing that section, I saved a few screens away (again, just to be certain), exited, turned off compatibility on both executables, and moved the savegame directory back to My Documents. Then I went back in and continued the game. I've just wound the train back up, and still haven't encountered any problems.
I didn't test any of the other compatibility modes. If it works under Windows 2000 compatibility, that would remove the need to move the save directory.

Hmm, I never encountered this problem on my dual-pack fully patched version running on XP 32 bit. Maybe a 64 bit issue?

No, it can happen on 32-bit as well. Forgot to mention that's what I'm running.
I crashed multiple times in the aviary. Everywhere else the game seemed to play fine. I never really solved the issue. Just saved alot & eventually got thru to the next train station. I did notice that in game anti aliasing was not stable, but I could use anti aliasing under my video card properties
also if you do change compatability mode from xp to win 98, don't be surprised if you can't find your saved game files. In compatability mode your save games are located in the game directory but in xp mode they are saved under My Documents. If you change to windows 98 mode it will not move your saved games. If you change back to xp mode it will still look for the games in the game directory. I solved this by renaming the saved games directory under the game directory.
system: win xp, geforce 6800, 2400 cpu
I had this problem as well (running winXP - aliasing off) - but got past it similarly to KL, by saving at every screen, after a couple tries (and crashes) I was able to make it down with the egg and to the next screen. Eventually I crossed the platform - thankfully never needing to return back to that side of the gameworld.
I had the same problem in the aviary. The way I solved it was to change my video desktop to only use one display. When I had two displays the programme kept crashing, but as soon as I changed it to one display it worked fine. I had noticed when playing another game that this action was recommended to tried it here too.
With an NVidia card this is easy as it just means setting up a desktop with a single display and just using the desktop manager to use that desktop when running Syberia.
I have experienced the same problem involving the eggs and descending the ladder to the platform.
I have XP and tried running the game in 95/98 compatibility modes. I backed up my save file and put another into the gog games file, only now when I launch the game and try and load my saves-- the load screen is empty of saves!

I tried putting it back to the way it was, and yet the game cannot find the save game file.

Would someone kindly inform me how to get the game to recognise the save game file (where to put it, what to call it if necessary).

If not I'll reinstall...

They should go in the "Syberia Saves" folder inside the Syberia folder. That also worked for me in XP, without any compatibility settings, when I didn't like it using my Profile folder.
