Seeing the nice preservation program that GOG is following , how many chances we have to finally get our hands on native source code?

I know Activision is not really happy to share code but maybe GOG can be a good leverage to finally let that happen?

The game is working , I know, but it needs love for resolution support, getting rid of Gamespy code, Adv code (something that rely on a Microsoft server and could die anytime soon) and... Modding.
Native code is strictly holding up expanding the scripted code and future developments.

We tried unsuccessfully to get the Swat 3 source code from Activision many years ago.

What we were told is that they didn't want to pay someone to go through the game code to remove any 3rd party code (as you said in Swat 4 terms Gamespy code for example).

There is also a good chance by now that the source code has been lost.

PS: Microsoft may now own the Swat IP since they bought Activision-Blizzard. I am waiting to see if the copyright was going to change on GOG.com
Native code has been already been already handed over Canadian Army for the CFDA mod (as a training tool) back in the day.
I wonder if they maybe still have the code somewhere, or their modified code for the mod , It would be a very good starting point.
