it's been quite awhile since I've played this game and was looking for possible problems w/ swat 3 and win 8 before I got sent down memory lane.

sorry for the sentimental bullshit that follows...

Slippery_Jim: So far we have narrowed this down to a Windows 8 problem. The same issue happens with vanilla Swat 3 as well as with mods.

I assume Windows 8 doesn't like old versions of DirectX (specifically games that use DirectDraw).

If anyone can get Swat 3 running on Windows 8 without framerate issues please post your method here.
short story long,
so it's been quite a few years since I've fired up SWAT 3. last time I did, I remember having frame rate issues but this was circa '04-05. I originally bought cqb on release and had a lot of fun with it. then they released the ee edition.

I remember it being a ~35mB download. which I did on a 56k modem... I ended up playing the shit out of this game, hell I almost lost a job due to playing so much. hooked up with a good group of people and had hours upon hours of fun. played a lot of good games with a lot of good people but the two names that that stick in my mind most:

1. camey deuce. I was TK'd by camey on one of my first coop missions for going lone wolf.
2. slippery jim. I don't remember exactly how I ended up hooking up with him... through camey? furrycat? down? no idea, but we spent a good amount of time together. probably more than two men should....

anyhow, hiya slip! hope you see this

I'm having this issue also. Has anyone here found a fix? I see the last problem posting was in April.

I certainly did. How's it going Porn_Loader. Been a long time :)

As for the Windows 8 issue here is a link that I found on the subject:

I finally got this running on Windows 8 without lag. With the exception of the space bar menu. Even with the Windows ACT it still wouldn't work but WineD3D was effective.

Use dgvoodo 2

go into your SWAT 3 shortcut's properties and add in "-nointro" (no quotes) after "C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\SWAT 3\game\swat.exe", and in the compatibility tab and check the reduced color mode box and choose "16-bit
Have any of you guys tried it on Windows 10? How does it work there?

Was just about to ask this myself since it hits next month, I'm guessing it will run into the same problems that Windows 8 has.

I can't even get the game to launch with those WineD3D dll files in place...

(Windows 8.1, 64-bit by the way. I also have an AMD GPU, whereas many other people seem to be referencing Nvidia GPUs. Perhaps I'm just screwed? Either way, it's amazing to me that this issue still hasn't been resolved.)

So does Windows 10 have the same problems?

tydog98: So does Windows 10 have the same problems?
I can't even get the game to launch, keep getting a Can't start 2D Mode error.
10 seems to have the low framerate issues too.
Has anyone tried to use some kind of wrapper?
Windows Ten Pro, upgraded from 7. It's very very bad for this game. Acceptable loss, considering that most everything else works for me, but if anyone figures out a way to make the game work, I'd be interested. Even the menus are lagging.
With windows 10 i no longer have low framerate issues with SWAT 3 (GTX 970). Does any more got their problem solved with this new OS?

Update your drivers.

Can you reply please and give me info if you are using AMD? I got Nvidia and the fps problems were solved but on my laptop with AMD i still had the low framerate issue.

It is very bad for GOG to ignore people who have issues with games and i would like to ask people to demand a refund even if GOG refuses because you can download safe questionable third party solution programs. I belive it's time for GOG to stop ignore us and actually start make their games working on newer PCs.
