Hi guys,

I bought SWAT 2 today, but as I just tried running it, I found out that it runs really poorly!

The lag is unbearable, and no matter how I try running it - compatibility mode, windowed mode etc. it just doesn't get better.

Do any of you have a neat little trick to do something about this?

I also tried running it in DosBox, but of course I can't because it's a windows application.

My system is running Windows10 by the way.

I hope to get some good answers - thanks in advance :)

Ah yes, you are probably suffering from the problem that many old games have. Swat 3 also suffers from this.

Windows 8 and Windows 10 have terrible support for legacy games. Specifically they don't like older colour modes such as 16-bit colour and only can emulate it. Old Direct Draw games seem to suffer a lot from this problem.

Try using dgVoodoo.

I haven't tried it with Swat 2 yet personally but it works with Swat 3. Below are the install instructions:

After you have downloaded the latest .Zip file from the dgVoodoo website you should unzip to your hard drive (perhaps onto your Desktop). You will want to copy 3 files into the main folder of Swat 2: dgVoodooSetup.exe, D3DImm.dll, and DDraw.dll (the final two you will find in the "MS" subfolder created by dgVoodoo when you unzip it).

Next you should run the dgVoodooSetup.exe to configure the wrapper. By default dgVoodoo adds a watermark at the bottom of your screen when you run the game but thankfully this can be turned off. Go to the "DirectX" tab and untick the watermark. Playing with other settings may improve the image quality but you may want to try default settings just to get it running.

Good luck and please let us know if it worked.

dgVoodoo didn't seem to work, it broke the character sprites yet the map itself seemed fine, no clue if the FPS was any better underneath the mess since had judged on character movement before dgVoodoo.

Couldn't get WineD3D to work, game crashes on start but I had that issue with SWAT 3 also, never had it working.
Thanks for testing that out DarkSynopsis. I can't recall is your video card an AMD or Nvidia?

You already guessed my next suggestion was and if that doesn't work for OP he might want to try [url=https://sourceforge.net/projects/dxwnd/]DxWnd
I'm on a NVIDIA card, I found that version 1.7.54 of WineD3D will let me boot up the game but seems to have the opposite problem of dgVoodoo, renders the characters and not the map.

As for DxWnd it appears to work fine but I'm not seeing an increase in FPS.
