I've got the retail version of SWAT 3, but as it seems to at least run okay during missions, I was wondering if there's any advantage to also owning the GOG version.
Specifically;
-Does the start button still flicker through the menu?
-Are there extra (widescreen) resolution options?
-Is the menu now at the resolution you set the game at?

The start button flickering through might be due to having a dual monitor setup.

Widescreen is possible with any SWAT 3 version, see http://widescreengamingforum.com/dr/swat-3-close-quarters-battle
I never had any flickering problems on Windows 7 64-bit.
Out of interest I was looking for a solution to the start icon flashing in game (Win 7) and it is indeed caused by a dual monitor setup. Though you have to ensure the second monitor is completely off at the power (the problem still remains even if I have it on standby).

I don't think it is. Well, maybe it is one cause. I'm using a single monitor setup but still get the flicker.

Sorry for the necro. Just wanted to point out that a dual monitor setup isn't the only cause. I'm using the Last Resort mod to put the game in 1920x1080 so that may be why mine is flickering.

It makes the game almost unplayable, since I like to read up on the case, crimes, stealth entries, warnings etc. but because of this bug that is all but impossible, unless I want to go into a seizure.

The game play is perfectly fine though.

If anyone has a solution please feel free to shed some light on this matter, this is a great game.

I've disconnected both monitors, disabled them in my catalyst profile and unplugged them physically and my screen still flickers along with all menus attempting to refresh it self every 1 second. Its like waterboarding trying to sludge through the settings.
Try dgVoodoo, it's a wrapper for old directx (and glide) games to work well in modern OS. To try it you'll need to copy paste 3 of the included files in the main SWAT 3 directory, dgVoodooSetup.exe, D3Dlmm.dll and DDraw.dll then run dgVoodooSetup.exe, choose the desired settings (general and D3D tab in this case) and run the game as usual. The in game resolution settings will no longer affect anything as long as you keep the dgVoodoo files in there but the rest settings will work as always.
