Looking at buying this, wondering if the GOG version is going to get the multiplayer update that came out on Steam on Nov 5?
Yes, the multiplayer mode was in the game when I loaded it today. It's pretty empty though. Couldn't find anyone to play it with :-\

What platform are you playing on? I'm on macOS and the latest version I have in GOG Galaxy is 1.16, which is listed as "9 months ago" and doesn't seem to have any multiplayer features.
Hey guys, I just wanted to ask how the multiplayer is realized on a technical level. Is Gog Galaxy required to find each other? Does it have its own servers independent from GOG? Can you host a game locally within your LAN or connect to a known IP address?

Thanks!

Okay, so now I bought the game and can reply to my own question. There is no way to host your own game server. All multiplayer connections go through the developers' server. You can create a game on their server and get a code such as "XY23#5678" which you then have to tell your friends. Your friends join your game by entering that code. Gog Galaxy is not required for the multiplayer, so there does not seem to be any DRM through the backdoor. Still, the multiplayer depends on the developers to keep their server running.
