Just got the game and tested it but when I logged off and logged back on I was back at the beginning room. How does this work?

I started it today and from what I can understand the game saves power ups, shards unlocked "main rooms" and bosses but not your position.

I ended up ending the game 3x and really liking it. Save system took some getting use to.
