Not cool man. Blinded by the light.

In seriousness, updated the game to the GOG 4 version from the GOG 3 version. What can I do to fix this or do I just restart and hope next time it won't happen again.

It's a known problem and a solution exists see here.
It is possiblle that GOG.com hasn't got the update that fixes it yet.

Ah yes, the other place and the reorganization :). Figured as much - it's cool. In the mean time until this is solved, I'll just not use this weapon with my sunglasses if at all.
