I'm trying to run Stronghold HD from GOG on my laptop. Whenever I launch the file (even when running as administrator) the screen goes black and flickers a few times as it tries to adjust, but eventually quits and says that StrongholdHD.exe has stopped working. I know there are some issues with laptops that have multiple GPUs, but I have not seen any clear resolution. My current setup is:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3317U CPU @ 1.70GHz 1.70 GHz
Installed Memory: 6GB
System: 64-Bit OS (Windows 7 Home Premium - SP 1)
Display Adapters: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 and NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M.
NVIDIA Drivers: 314.07 (3/12/2013)

I've tried setting the display adapter to only run the program on the Intel HD or the NVIDIA card. I've tried different resolution settings (starting at 800 x 600). Nothing has worked so far.

Any ideas?
Anyone? Bueller?
Same here - tried the 1.3 patch from firefly with no gain.

Let me know if you get anywhere.

Strange. Just out of curiosity, does the classic version work for you?

No - unfortunately we couldn't find any reason why the game would not load (HD or Classic). The GOG support team was very helpful though and provided some suggestions I hadn't found on the forums or other websites. Kudos on them trying to keep customers happy.

Just in case you were curious on some of the methods we tried (maybe they'll work for someone else):

1. Run the install file as Administrator and run the executable game file as Administrator.
2. Download and install Direct X runtime package: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=3b170b25-abab-4bc3-ae91-50ceb6d8fa8d
3. Update DirectX files: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35
4. Replace stronghold.cfg file in My Documents/Stronghold folder: http://www1.zippyshare.com/v/39361165/file.html
5. Turn off any secondary displays (no multi-monitor setups).
6. Change permissions on game folder: http://www.wikihow.com/Change-File-Permissions-on-Windows-7
7. Make unique gaming profile using only one of the GPUs for multi-GPU machine.
