On a german gamersite "Gamestar" I read that Fireaxis announced a HD Remake of Stronghold 1 and Stronghold Crusader on November 1.. It will only be distributed digitally, maybe on GOG. Now I'm wondering if I get a free HD Upgrade if I already own both games on GOG.

Here's an official info along with screenshots: http://www.fireflyworlds.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=531&Itemid=1

Resolutions up to 2560x1600.
This is great news.
Will the new HD versions be compatable if you wanna play someone online via gameranger? Or will all players need same version.
Anyways this is great news and a day one purchse for me.
Its a bit sad that Firefly are unable to make a good game in so long, that tweaking and recompiling their old titles is keeping them afloat.

I mean improving resolution would take 1 dude a few days to get the GUI working on widescreens, and bam free money.

(old strongholds are amazing though)
I just found out in "My Games" page I usually download my purchased games.
There is a new Stronghold HD Installer for download!!

Have fun!
It was a nice surprise that they also updated the original Crusader as well. I was afraid they were going to only throw Extreme in there. I'm not too keen on the latter.
Hmmm... I think that's the right place:

I recently bought Stronghold on gog.com for my wife. 5 minutes later i found out that Stronghold HD will be released soon.

Tip: Always look into the gog.com forums!

Now i realized that i've got the HD Upgrade for free.
Thank you, GOG! That'a very kind of you! My wife really likes the new and crisp interface.

One question remains: Why does it need admin privileges?
The original Stronghold doesn't need them.
I removed the "run as admin" option and haven't run into issues by now.
Are there any reasons for this setting?

I guess GOG.com added it to the new installer. The default install location used to be the program files dir, which needs admin privileges to run properly. However, they changed the default installation location to c:\gog games\.
so ehm. no, I don`t have a clue either..

Guess they just wanted to make sure their games run out of the box regardless of the location you install them.
