Changing the .sav suffix to .map and moving the resulting map file to the Maps folder was a standard method of creating new map files for players and modders. I used this process many times over the years with my original Stronghold installation.

On my GOG installation of Stronghold, this doesn't work anymore. I can change .sav to .map, but the files never show up when I try to edit them in Map Editor.

Anyone have any ideas?

Is it possible that the map editor is looking for the .map files elsewhere ? if you are on Vista or Win7 you could try dropping the .map file in the maps folder on the AppData/VirtualStore directory, Vista and 7 are very protective of the Program Files folder and often redirect saves and maps and such to the VirtualStore location

Or to avoid redirects completely try running the relevant .exe's (game exe and/or map.exe) as admin.
Thanks for the ideas--unfortunately, still not working. The map editor sees and will edit all the map files labeled "User-Created" . It also sees and edits a user file that I downloaded from the Stronghold Heaven site.

It sees no other .map files, no matter where I place them.

Yes, I'm running Stronghold on Windows 7 and I'm running it with admin privileges. I was previously running the original Stronghold on this same system and had no problems. The only change was uninstalling the original installation and installing the GOG version. Both the original and the GOG package are version 1.2.
Ah, bummer :(

Wish i had more suggestinons but unfortunately i never played the game or messed around with the map editor.
