Iam on mission 15, where I have to go through the Pigs castle and out the other side before the pig shows up.
I have tried a few variations, and I am justr not getting it. Typically, I was never any good at a mission in an RTS where I couldn't build, that and stealth, neither are a strong suit of mine.

Now, first tactic I tried was to use the spearman in front to fill the moat and use the battering ram, and storm the walls. Took a crap load of losses, didnt get very far.

Tried coming in from the left. Dug in a portion of the moat and sent tunnelers in behind. Had to get it right so I didnt take out the stairs. But I could get in, split my maceman into 2 groups and sweep through most of the castle from the walls down and filling the towers in with archers behind them. Went out the back and lost.... forgetting I had to kill EVERYONE. Reloaded and tried it again, I can kill everyone and get the back wall down in time to lose. Due to the castle design I cant get through the segments fast enough to beat the pig.

Went back to the front, using the same basic strat of fill moat-dig holes in the walls storm the walls. But every time I tried this approach, I lostg too many men getting in from the front to finish out, but I was WAY ahead of schedule.

I ahve tried MANY variations of both of these tactics, and can get close, but cant beat it.
I have done some of it on hard (reloaded and restarted on ahrd for a challenge) the reston medium. I even tried chickening out and putting it on easy and still have the same problems.

Any advise? I want to beat the main campaign, but i have had probably 6+ hours of beating my head against a wall trying to get this and am strill falling short. Got any good strats for someone who isnt terribly good with not building and taking something aside from his normal combo of units.
THANKS

I'm stuck on this mission as well. All the walkthroughs online seems to rely on some exploit that was fixed ages ago(allows your archers to kill theirs in the towers without retribution).

One tip, if you manage to get inside and set your ladders up, set your melee units to aggressive stance so that they will split up and seek out the archers rather than just sit their and take arrows. It's much more effective, but I still can't manage to get them all killed, I usually lose all my archers just trying to get in.

EDIT: managed to get past it, set the difficulty to easy, and follow this 'strategy'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MlpGrEOtUQ&feature=related

Necro55: Iam on mission 15, where I have to go through the Pigs castle and out the other side before the pig shows up.
So after 3 days of trying, I finally got it.

1. Gather all your army in one big group in the area where they start near the trees, and wait for the first small attack. Let your archers kill everyone before they reach your main group.

2. Basically, just charge at the front gate, but do it in this order: Spearmen go first, they are the ones that will do your digging. Have everyone else (including the ram) follow shortly behind the spearmen, charging at the place where the spearmen are filling in the moat. This will distract the archers, and allow the spearmen to fill in the moat within seconds.

3. As soon as the moat is filled enough at the main gate, bring in the ram. Make sure it's attacking the gate, not the wall next to it (as I did several times *facepalm*). As soon as the ram starts doing it's thing, get the mace guys to come in and help, the gate should go down within about 30 seconds, and most of your army should still be alive.

4. Charge up the two front facing towers and kill everyone (use spearmen and mace men). While that's happening, bring your ram to the inner gate, and let it start doing it's thing. Your army should be ready to join you and help you get the gate down pretty quickly.

5. Once the second gate is down, it's business as usual as long as you still have enough troops by that point.

If someone can tell me (simply) how to make a video, I'd be happy to post it if the above instructions don't help.

Edit: Also, by the time you start attacking the main gate, make sure all your troops are set on "aggressive", this will help them target people once the walls are down.

I watched the video. Thanks alot for the help there, I will try it shortly.
Actually, I found I was going about it wrong, at a goal level. Stupid me misunderstood the briefing, they told you to get through the base and into the Fenlands. I killed about 2/3 the troops, and got from one end of the Castle to the other, knocked down the back gate and ran to the far end of the map thinking it was the Fenlands.....

WOW, I feel like a tard now haha. Oh well, live and learn. Thanks alot for the vid, this should get me unstuck quickly :)
I was stuck at this very same mission, and am glad that I wasn't alone in attempting to beat the pig! I managed to pull it off in Normal - although I had to slow the game speed all the way down to micro my competent forces haha.

It felt great guys!

EDIT - wasn't my intention to necro, I'm just overcome with feelings LOL

Come to think of it, that's where I hit a wall, too. Once I find enough time to give it the proper attention I think I'll be giving it another go.

I implore you! I utilized some of the general tactics already mentioned. And - having my ranged units go into the square tower after my spear and mace men took care the enemy. Good hunting!
