I was really looking forward to Stronghold Crusader, but as mentioned in another review, this game has some serious problems on several fronts.
The game lacks a decent AI engine, consequently excluding "realistic" opponent behavior in single player mode. The computer opponents are way faster in managing its castle and troops than the average human player can possibly match. Furthermore, the tutorial does not go into details about the several buildings and their properties, making you blind at knowing what to spend resources on.
It would been great to see a new game with the same graphics and details, but with an improved AI engine.
Well.....there IS a new stronghold that is supposed to come out sometime.......maybe you will enjoy that more.
You've got to get your build order right and practice a fair bit to get the hang of how to build a castle and build an army up so that you can fend of the AI. It does take some time to learn how to effectively build a castle and early mistakes will have you either fighting an uphill struggle or being beaten outright (ps an AI that beats you is a good AI not a bad one ;)).

Which buildings are you having problems with understanding?

edit - darn it what is it with people bumping 1 year old posts in forums!!!!

The major AI problem is that many times I see units just standing and doing noting while their friends stand 2 meters away and fight.
It's the frustrating part.

Otherwise it's a good game.
