I'm on the last mission of the Alaska campaign, where one is supposed to provide close air support for two groups of T-72 tanks. I have no trouble downing the F-16s, nor the A-10s, nor strafing the ZSUs, which are easily recognizable.

My trouble is that I have no clue what an M-1 tank looks like other than "it looks like a tank", and I've no idea how to distinguish them, as targets, from the friendly T-72s. I've looked in the manual and playtesters' guide for pictures to no avail, and I even checked the in-game object browser which, while having an entry for the T-72, does not have one for the M-1. I bought a group of AGM-65s to make targetting easy, but I could use some advice with regard to target acquisition!

Help?

The T-72 and the M1 Abrams are real tanks, so you can look up Wikipedia or Google Images for reference. But yeah, it is kind of silly that the actual game itself doesn't provide a proper reference in any form to help with image recognition.

If you're still having problems distinguishing between the two, know if it looks sleek and rounded it's probably a T-72. If it looks blocky and angular, it's probably an M1.

If you read the playtesters' guide, you'll also know that you don't have to destroy every single M1 tank that you see, you just need to score a certain number of points to complete the mission.

I had actually thought to look on Wikipedia, knowing that Strike Commander simulates real hardware, but it didn't really help.

That was actually really helpful advice! Sometimes you just need it all dumbed down. Thanks! ;)

Four points do need to be from tanks, however, and as there's only six tanks total, you still have to get two thirds of them, which is a somewhat tall order, if you ask me. Still, I managed in the end!

I should note, also, that it occurs to me now I could have simply turned on smart targetting. Could have saved myself a lot of trouble...
