Why bother releasing this game? I can't imagine a lot of people buying this because there are better versions of SF2 out there and also there's a great remake of it for consoles that never saw the light on PC. I mean this of course:

Why don't you try getting this game instead of Alpha?
That game is only available on consoles. If you don't like SFA2 then don't bother buying/playing it, as simple as that.
You can't really compare SF2 and SFA2. The game mechanics are different.

I agree. I'd much rather see a PC port of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix than this.
People like different things, right? There are people that like this, others don't. Well, now people that like this can buy it and play it. People that don't can buy and play something else.

"Better versions" is subjective. At the end of the day, it's nice to have something available, even if a lot won't buy it, cause there are some out there that will buy it and will enjoy it.
I think this game is fantastic, and I am sure I am not alone. This already justifies having it here.
The only problem is that most people don't know but the PC ports of both Street Fighter Alpha and Alpha 2 are based on the PlayStation version, with most visual and sound effects in a worse quality. The only thing GOG did was to support it directly, but I would like to see some improvements on the joystick support and have the option to play it windowed, because the game is too ugly in fullscreen
I don't have a PlayStation and frankly don't care about other versions on consoles. I just enjoy the game as it is in an unbiased way. It is fun and quite well done. I also have no issues playing with a gamepad (Logitech F310). I can run it in a windowed mode in Linux by changing wine settings, but I don't know if this helps in your case.
@Sance - don't expect miracles with Capcom. They are really unfriendly for PC-users (on the other hand - in recent months I've read a lot of complaints written by console users on official Capcom's forum, so maybe it's not only about our favourite platform?). Very late ports, bad quality of them (2 years after relase they've ported Dino Crisis 2 - what took them so long, I really don't know, because there is nothing, which could justify this delay - no improvements in graphic, no more content, zero adjustment of control, nothing, zero, nada).

Jotamide already said about another aspect of this problem - there is not too many relases of SF on PC. As far as I remember, there was first two parts of Street Fighter (the "mutation" Super Street Fighter II Turbo was too relaced for DOS), Street Fighter Alpha, and Street Fighter Alpha 2. (and of course these newer parts - SF IV, SSFIV Arcade Edition, and incoming Ultra SF IV).

SF Alpha 3 was never relaced for PC (pity, really pity, because it has one of the widest choice of characters in case of this series, at least in case of 2D relases), not to mention about various re-editions, like this one, which Sance already mentioned.
I do wish they would have released Street Fighter III for PC. I was really late in playing that and really enjoyed it. I would totally buy that in an instant if it was released on GOG. I only have Super Street Fighter IV: AE and Street Fighter Alpha 2 on PC. They are also two of my favourites in the series aside from my default #1 favourite Street Fighter II. I wish more Street Fighter games were released on GOG. A lot of people complained about the controls or configuring the control settings or assigning buttons in SFA2, but once I figured it out and saved the settings, everything was fine.

SF3 and its few variant editions are all over on Steam, in the Street Fighter: 30th Anniversary Collection:

Would be nice, if they ported SF30 AC over to GOG.
Same goes for SSF4: AE and SF5 - would be nice, if those got GOG ports.

Side note - also, SSF2 Turbo need fixing on Steam in the SF30AC. No matter what difficulty, it always comes at you at its highest; bug and issues w/ the game.

Would be nice, if that SF 30th Anniversary Collection was also here on GOG.

Eh, I thought the ports for RE5,6,7 turned out great on the PC, TBH. Run and looks great.
And the same also goes for RE2 Remake.

Dragon's Dogma, DMC4 and DMC5 also turned out well too, performance-wise and port-wise on the technical side for the PC.

If there's anything worth complaining about for Capcom for a lot of their recent & high profile PC ports - well, it's that they're on Steam and laced with Steamworks DRM.

Possibly because this was released by Virgin Interactive on PC in 1998. They also released Puzzle Fighter, Mega Man X3, and Mega Man X4 on PC that year.

Many thought that this release on GOG, at the time, was indication that Capcom were considering GOG as a platform for their games. Not a chance!

This game was never close to being a half decent version and that is why Capcom neglected it letting GOG take the scraps.

Still, at least we have it here. The other releases I mentioned above were console accurate releases.
This game was included in the "Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection" released in 2018 for pc.
