MInimizing spoilers:

I've successfully activated the viewing glass - the letter has gained a checkmark and everything. But it doesn't reveal anything on the map. In fact, the image doesn't even change when it's placed on the map.

The magnifying glass works fine, presenting a slightly-larger version of whatever it's placed on. But the viewing glass remains blank no matter where it's placed.
