I love this site. i hope you guys continue to do what you're doing. I'm glad there are people that realize how much we all love the good old games of our yesteryear. I also hope this sheds some light on some of these older titles that never got sequels. I prayed and begged and would have done just about anything to see a Stonekeep 2. I even heard there was one in the making that was canceled. Oh woe is me. Please oh please, someone realize the awesomeness of this game world and make a sequel. There are still fans! Make it as good as the first and it won't matter if they've played the first one!
Thanks GOG!!
Yep, it would be very cool to see a Stonekeep 2, but of course it will likely never happen. It is a day gone by, but we can be thankful that gog gave us the original version to play.
I just bought The Thera Awakening the other day and should be receiving it next week I hope.
If it were allowed I would give it a go to scan it and mail it to gog to post as a bonus item.
Whoa, I didn't even know there were plans for a second part of the game in the past. It would be awesome if someone picked up the idea today.
Who knows what could happen. I've heard rumblings about a new Simon the Sorcerer game, and there was Fallout 3, Wing Commander was re-released a couple of years ago and then Xbox 360 sold an arcade like version of the same name. So who knows? Maybe a spiritual successor like Dragon Age to Balder's Gate. I think that would be acceptable too.
sadly a good sequal would fail.. why a good sequal? well a bad sequal wouldnt be anything like the original but would adhere to todays rules of a 'good' rpg and might be an elder scrolls oblivion clone, and will be popular (potentially), and possibly even a good game, but not in terms of a true sequal to Stonekeep.
But a GOOD sequal, one that WE want would keep the same gameplay, maybe enhance graphics but the essential gameplay would remain untouched... this would not appeal to the mainstream as classic and oldschool is hated upon by todays immature gaming community.
IIRC, there was a Stonekeep 2 planned back in the heyday of the Infinity Engine games. Interplay commissioned Black Isle Studios to make it, and it got shelved it because, apparently, BIS felt working on a 1st person perspective dungeon crawler was beneath them.
Well they did create Fallout 1 & 2 so I can forgive them
I could see Stonekeep 2: Return to Stonekeep be a hit on the iPhone. It may not make full use of the iPhone's cababilities, but if the iPhone app market is anything like the market for my phone (2 years old at most), as far as genres of games, it would increase the # of RPGs by a factor of infinity.
yea Stonekeep was an awesome adventure!
i played that game 12 years ago and i remember it like it was something that happened to me...
This is ridiculous. There should be a sequel to the game. It was the first I ever played on PC and I remember how into it I got. What do I gotta do? Become a programmer?
Black Isle Studios worked on a sequel called Stonekeep 2: Godmaker for five years before canceling it in 2001.

That makes my eyes all watery.
If only . . .
It could be possible to create a modern sequel to Stonekeep that could be popular today and not completely ruin the game I think. I agree that if they made strictly a new hi-res sequel to the old game it would only appeal to those of us who love the classics, or if they dumped the game into one of the current RPG game engines it would just be another who cares RPG that most likely wouldn’t do well since it’s not part of an established series at this point.
But, if they kept the RPG elements (items, spells, skills progression, party members), and kept it in the traditional Stonekeep world (locations, characters), and built the game in a FPS engine they could make a modern sequel that would immerse the player in the world to the same degree the original did and might actually stand out from a lot of other games.
This would be very cool, I have heard speculation that wii is releasing it as a wii download thing or whatever. I agree with whoever said that it would be best as the original with better graphics. Also maybe add some new features. Most of today's mindless/random games cannot compare to the unique environment and feeling of the game Stonekeep. I love it is a very mysterious game (unusual items, unusual confrontations, and creative level design. Not to mention it's unique items, magick, and strange/funny findings (like piles of crap). What other game has piles of crap in it for you to play with? With all that said, I don't think it has a stupid level cap either, you can be anything and everything you want to be (mage/barbarian/archer) Also, I hate long drawn out stories with "blah blah some random name did this and , I generally get really tired of reading page after page of pointless crap in the rpg's of today. In Stonekeep you can just start the game, hit space twice or thrice, and your ready to start kicking ass. Ya, that's right, I said it, I HATE long drawn out beginnings and quests, but, love kicking ass. I cant be the only one.

I can't tolerate the idea of a next-gen Stonekeep 2.
