I just wanted to ask if leveling up is automatic or you have to do something, couldnt figure that one out. Also Im on the second level, and Im stuck. Is there any way to kill slimes faster, or is the best method throwing rocks and knives?

Its been a while since i have played but as I recall leveling happens automatically. To level up with swords you have to use your sword etc. If I remember correctly slims are weak against piercing weapons so the knives would work better than the rocks as I recall.

There is no general XP for levelups. As stated, you gain skill with weapons you use.
If you use heavy weapons you gain strength as well, if you use light weapons you gain agility as well. You will gain health if you raise either strength or agility.
Fire spells and oil flasks are a pretty good way to deal with slimes.

Actually throwing axes will take a slime out in one hit also.
