Hi,

I've owned this game since it first came out. While it was uninstallable on Windows 7 with the original discs (copy protection used), I tried a demo first from iWin I believe it was. I got so far as in the beginning of the game where your carrying the coffee and first talk to the police officer outside the apartment building, it just hangs up when the text should appear. Nothing else is clickable after any in game speech/text is supposed to show up.

Now... has anyone with either 32/64bit os of Windows 7 confirmed that speech and enterance into the apartment is working with this version? I'll gladly buy another copy (I even have a sealed and opened copy of Still Life II, showing how much I like the series, even the same with Post Mortem, the first part of this series) if it does work.

Thanks.
I play on a system running Win 7 x64 Ultimate. It's the GOG download, and it runs without any sort of trouble.
I can get it running fine in Win7 64 with NT4 compatibility mode, run as admin and a bunch of things disabled (all in the compatibility tab). Generally everything checked but 640x480 and 256 colours.

Thanks, this helped.

Win7 64bit Home Premium. I have it running with NT4 compatibility more (which was selected by default) and the following options: Disable visual themes, and Disable desktop composition.
It appears as though the game will fail to start if you click launch from the installer (the last step of the install) but if you go in the start menu (or desktop icon) it will work without any need for configuration.
The game runs perfectly fine on my Windows 7 x64 machine without any modifications or adjustments.

Same. ATI card, latest drivers.
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium with a GeForce 9500 GT card and I have tried disabling everything mentioned and running in NT4 compatibility, and all I keep getting is a black screen flash and then a message that says that the color scheme has been changed to Windows 7 Basic, and then nothing happens anyway. I get info that there is an issue with the Aero themes, but I can't figure out how to get past this. Very frustrated and support has not responded to my request for help - any ideas out there?!
Re: Previous post - a head's up for people having problems - make sure you change the compatilbity settings in the actual game file - not off the desktop icon. I re-loaded and went into the actual file in my programs file (C drive, GOG folder) and made the same changes there and it's working!!! Needless to say, but happy gamer.

Try this...

Set NT4 compatibility and Run as Administrator to the "game.exe" and run the game via that executable. Don't use the "Still Life.exe". See if that helps.

This worked for my Vista 32 laptop. I could not get past the opening scene when she walks up to the cop. Nor could I SAVE games. With this small fix, both issues were fixed. Thanks.

game.exe is the original exe of the game.

The syberia.exe is some custom one made either by DotEmu or GOG. I haven't used that one, as it requires some other crap files for no good reason. Compatibility reason my ...
Hi all,

I've tried all of the various setups and modifications in this thread but, nothing seems to work. Both of the .exe files (whether I open them as the administrator or just double-clicking them) just make my version of Windows 7 change to Windows 7 Basic and then goes no further. There's a process running called StillLife but, that's about it. The game never opens.

What more might there be to do to make this work? Thanks for any help you all might have!

Virtualization might be an option for those that cannot find any other solution. See if you can install XP Mode and then install the game in XP Mode.

Or after installing XP Mode, you can use VMware Player to port XP Mode to VMware's virtualization platform, which is better.

It is all free.
I too was stuck at the first 'action' seen where she's supposed to talk to the beat cop. I changed to NT4 compatibility and checked all the settings except 640x480 (including Run As Administrator) and it started working. The difference is I did it to the desktop shortcut, which runs StillLife.exe.
Works fine on my x64 Windows 7 system. Without changing any compatibility settings or anything.
