I thought I would just write here if you have issues after installing Stellaris.

After each install the game seems to crash to desktop in away that it logs you out of the running Linux session.

So after installing all but the freed dlc the game crashed. I shutdown the pc and then it seemed to run without a problem. I had an old Stellaris save from Steam which need the free dlc I forgot to install. Subsequently the crash to desktop issue is back again without any obvious reason.

The Steam version of Stellaris though runs without a hitch so its something in the launcher coding probably.

Edit: I just noticed there is essentially the issue being discussed in the Ubuntu thread.

Edit 2: I can confirm the workaround works.

Basically go to Stellaris/game folder with terminal and use this: "./stellaris -nolauncher" and it should run the game without the launcher.

or do it directly ./GOG\ Games/Stellaris/game/./stellaris -nolauncher

Edit 3: And after using the -nolauncher option the launcher magically works again ..... Like what the hell? And in the next run it doesn't work again. LoL Well at least the workaround works.

I managed to get it to run properly for me by modifying the icon's command line to read:
gnome-terminal -e "/home/stuart/GOG\ Games/Stellaris/game/stellaris"
For reference, here's my post in the thread where this particular issue was mentioned:

Yeah this seems to make the game work with the launcher. Very weird indeed.
