Initially I am liking the game. But space travel takes forever.. Would love the ability to do time compression..

1) Your piloting skill will greatly increase the speed of your ship. You can eventually find a merc if you look hard enough with high piloting skill. Place a dedicated pilot in the piloting slot using the crew manager and you will zipping around in no time.
2) Your warp drive affects the speed of your ship. Higher quality warp drives increase the base speed of your ship.
3) High-quality FTL drives increase your speed in FTL space.
4) Afterburners help you get around in gravity wells quickly.
Also, you can place beacons in star systems. Once a beacon is placed, you can instantly travel between star systems. More info in the in-game guide (press "H" and select guide at the top of that screen.)

Thank you for the follow up. I was using R. I was thinking of a fast forward (eg. 2x, 4x, etc)
