A couple of questions that I have:

1) What is the significance of the "skull" icon above some of the ships flying around? I was thinking perhaps they have bounties on them, or are specifically higher abilitied, but they appear above peaceful ships as well as enemy ships.

2) Is it a standard tactic of the enemy ships to occasionally ram you? Whatever I try it often happens that an enemy heads straight for me and rams into me. This does damage armour a little despite shields being fully up. It also doesn't register hull damage on the lower right combat log. It's a bit irritating that I just get the ship repaired at great cost, all new and shiny, and some great lout bumps into it!

ok, "several" questions then...

3) I have heard that when ship boarding becomes available, the ship crew will have to do the defending. I assume this is because the "ground crew" maybe on the ground or in a station? So am I doing right by spending some time building up the ship crews abilities and equipment in the odd ground mission?

4) Though boarding and "stealing" a ship sounds fun, could this be rather unbalancing?

5) I hope when the latest and subsequent updates come through they will available as "patches" not just a complete reinstall.

If this is an Alpha, the full and final release is going to be something spectacularly outstanding.

Hi bonzer - Thanks, glad you are enjoying the game.

1) They have better loot, are more difficult and have a higher chance to drop items for your ship. You can attack peaceful ships - in case you want to be a pirate ;) You will take a faction hit.

2) Yes, the idea is that the player should steer their ship and use afterburners in combat and try to avoid these collisions.

3) I'll provide more details on this as I continue to work on the boarding system. It will be at least a month before I'm ready to talk about it and show some of the progress. I'm leaning towards having players teleport back to their ship in cases where you are away and the ship is being attacked/boarded.

4) At lower levels of repair skill, it will be very difficult to steal a ship. Mostly, players will choose to sell these ships to a shady character who will tow it away and pay you below market prices based on how much you are able to repair the ship with your repair skill.

5) If you are using galaxy, you will get a diff patch. If you choose to download the installers, you will always need to download the entire game. GOG doesn't offer patches like that as far as I know. And, I don't have a way to do this myself. They build a new full build on their back end if you are downloading. Some people don't like using galaxy - not sure why, but that's the way it is.

Thank you for the prompt reply.

On point 2 (ramming) I figured out that I could shift the thrust slider to give myself some afterburner with (Spacebar), but even 25% takes a big bite out of the available power. Just another comfort zone to be refreshed I guess.

On point 5 (patch / updates), I only use offline installers, not a Galaxy fan. Is it safe to assume that after downloading the full game again once updated I can simply install it on top of the existing one without first uninstalling the original?

(Edit: point 2 after I figured it out).

I would say copy the entire save folder to a safe location on your drive before doing that, just in case. All config and save files are in that one folder. If GOG's installer overwrites your saves, you can just copy that folder back into the game install folder and you will be all set. I also recommend adding that folder to your backup system. Some players have over 2000 hours played.

They do for no man's sky... usually a handful of patches, then a new build. Repeat.

As for galaxy, my net connection is so flaky that a 4GB download will usually time out or crash out before completion. I can download at work, but aren't allowed to install something like galaxy there. So offline installers are a must for me.
(Well, I could download at work. Not for another month now, with the shutdown.)
I am enjoying this game, however. And now I have a bit more time to play it.
