I apologize for all my questions, I just started playing the other day I love the game. I was wondering how I would increase the peep limit for my station. I've got a sandbox with slightly less then 1/3 of the station inhabited and the amount of people I have doesn't seem to be increasing and I figure if I continue to expand I'm just gonna be left with a empty station.
I found this - " In Sandbox mode the maximum number of any given species that can enter via your Station Ports is determined by the number of Station Segments under your control minus the number of Penitents on board."

Ok I think I understand what to do. I think the easiest to do is create a copy of Peeps00.txt and place it in the folder for my sandbox game and just tell the script to link to that one instead. Question what is the "turn" that is used in the IF statements "Turn>allowpeeps" and "Turn>peeprate"

EDIT: I can just set the desired parameters from the sandbox mish file and let it load it automatically.

I give up. I can't figure out how to make changes. Guess I'm stuck with the unit limits as they are. I don't even know if I'm modifying the right folder because the only 9x folder with a mish file in it is 98 and that's supposed to be the multiplayer folder which shouldn't go with my sandbox game.
You wunz more ppl ?

Build more than one Port..
After a while you'll get more ppl leaving and boarding the station so that the port can't keep up..
So..building two ports will help..
In cae you have to whole station at ur disposal..
Maybe even up to 4 ports..

Personally..
I try to keep 3 segments from being unbuilt for the sole purpose of having an airtight security zone..
4 ports at the center..
with gunturrets one row in the middle one row on each side..
subsequently the entertainment zone and the upper deck zone unbuilt/unclaimed..
then to each of it's side..another zone with only the work deck claimed..
those i fill with even more turrets..
Now when a spy shows up, he'll haveto move past at lest 6 gun turret rows in order to get elsewehere..
(yes..they try..but they can't run far enough..heh..)
beyond that it's all decks..
with the first compartim, ent on each side of the 'center' for housing..
(don't use the housing for the lower decks..those nasty berths..use one full section for star motels on each side..)
The lower decks are for energy collectors and storage mostly..I do without the star docks..since i usually make so much money that even when the energy collectors start to 'leak' they still won't drain fast enough for all the energycash coming in..
in fact..I had so much energy cash once, so I could simply remove EVERYTHING in the lower decks including the energy collectors..and although it leaked the energy away at a great speed, I could fully rebuild the lower decks completely (energy collectors included to have enough left for a mild leak with all of them rebuilt..
people preffer undercrowd..
less waiting..
I'd be attaching screenies of what I mean..
But this game is easy enough..and part of it is finding out new ways to make it more beautifull in the entertainment deck..
(Boulevard across two sides with pretty lighting..)

Anyways..
the nice thing about the multi port layout is..
when it's too crowded you can simply turn one or two off...and still have troughput..
(4 or 8 ppl get on each time..but more ppl can still leave..)

BTW I love this game..
i play mostly sandbox now, since the scenarios hold no more secrets for me..
I win those always..
So sandbox with 3 competitors is more challenging, but I win those too..(but not always easy..)
And yes, starquakes and stuff keep it interesting..(and spies..)
Although i see spies as a resource..they go straight into the recycler.. : D
Also..check the like of ur station..
If you have next to no entertainment, no matter how many parts you open, no-one will show up..
Also..specially in the beginning when you ahgve very little..keep ur prices low..
Once you get at least everything once, (one for sleep, not berth, one for food with both food types, one
medical facility with at least a dispenser besdies the daignose units, and entertainment, such as disco, and
last but not least, love nest)..you can put the prices back to default..
When it get's better (street lights, plants in the accomodations, lights, etc..(general beautification),
you can start raising prices..
The nice thing is, once at a cretain level, the newcomers will pay full price for everything,
and thus be out of cash quicker...so they leave, maing room for others..
In my case, at full capacity, not even 4 ports can keep up...
I'd place another one (yes a fifth), but switched off..so people can only leave through it..
And with each pump it's 6400 Ec's..and they just keep going..like cilinders in an engine..
And that's beside sthey money they spend (quickly)) on board..
also..make ur bio decks diverse, with swimmin pools..(raising land with a hole in the center
and filling that with water..one of each temperature zone...cold, average and hot..)
With (almost) the whole bio deck available, you can also make the surroundings of each different..
So..3x3 different 'pools'..(cool/average/hot x wet/average/arid) possibluy even height diffs as well..

You... don't even know what we're talking about. Even with a million ports, there's still a pop cap encoded into the game.

The folder for sandbox is 00. The things you need to edit are in Peeps00.txt

Like this:

set grey_max ((segmentdecks + 8) - (penance_suit_count / 2))

Simply upping these numbers should work. Just be careful not to set it to infinite.

Now what I'm wondering about, is several other lines:

set peepola (popfactor / decksegmentcount)

And

set grey_every (peepola * 6)

What is a Peepola? And what does grey_every govern?

What is a grey_every as opposed to grey_max?

Snowball's chance in hell there's anyone around here with that sort of knowledge, but it doesn't hurt to try...
