This game was one of my favourite games. I actually bought it twice because it was stolen the first time.

It did, however, have quite a number of problems that were never fixed (even in either of the two versions of the final official patch). There were problems with hardware acceleration on NT systems and also crash to desktop bugs, particularly in multi-player games.

I put a great deal of effort into rewriting all of the game's scripts to remove the trigger functions (whilst still implementing all of the play features) because I thought that these might be the cause of the bugs. It didn't resolve the issues and I concluded that the game was very likely using the same communication systems in order to synchronise a number of the game's variables across the game's players. It was a useful experience though because I was also able to rebalance the multi-player and sand box games such that they were more satisfying since the games could tend to drag on. Without fixes for the crashes though, game play was relatively impossible.

I'm wanting to buy this version from GoG but only if the crashes have been fixed. Can anyone tell me, definitively, if the bugs have been fixed?

Thanks,

Daniel.
I can't say anything about the multiplayer as I never tried it, but I can report that I played the singleplayer from start to finish on my win7 Sony laptop, with an AMD graphics card, and it ran without any hiccups. Well, I might've experienced one, or perhaps two crashes, but I can't remember that I did. My recollection is that it ran 100%.
