For those who really get engrossed in the game, the official strategy guide contains quite a lot of non-strategic information about how the game was designed. (It explains, for example, why one of the robots in the music room can't be controlled. Though not why the control configuration screenshotted on the back of the box can't actually be entered in the game.)

I just bought myself the game and a copy of the guide; I was surprised to see that cheap (it's not a first edition or anything but then it's a freakin' guide). I'm looking forward to reading it when it arrives!

I was tempted by the book but it's not written by Adams at all (Terry Jones, obvs) and many people say it's pants or just banal. I'm not that much of a fan (I don't have the original game either, for example); the book and the guide to it will suffice!

It wasn't written by DA because he kept blowing the deadlines. It was supposed to be written by DA but he was too focused on writing the video game (which he also kept blowing deadlines on).

I actually have the book. I bought it with the game when the game came out. It's OK. It's not fantastic, it doesn't suck utterly. You can read it and laugh at a few things then put it away and really not feel like it's something that you need to reread over and over again.

Terry Jones claimed he only agreed to write it if he was allowed to do so while naked.

I've read it twice. I don't remember a whole lot, bits here and there, but I know I enjoyed it. I might open it up again when I have a few books cleared from my backlog.

Yessss the site is great. Especially interesting the Starlight Travel and Star Struct site "not" intended for our eyes. There are also several older and more complete versions still available at the marvelous web.archive.org. Got me a Starship Titanic folder now with loads of fun and old stuff, about 3Gb in total including old drawn designs and art, lovely!!!
Always loved the game, DA and even the irritating Parrot. :) Still have the hard copy with great extra's. And a beta-version of the game, which is still available at https://archive.org/details/starship_titanic_build_397
