So I double click to start the game, the screen turns black, the startup logo shows, then crashes immediately. No error box or anything. Just returns me to my desktop. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling, same issue. Are other people having trouble with this? Running Win 8.1 64-bit. I really don't want to return it, but if I can't run it...

I'm getting this issue too in Windows 10.

MechaTofuPirate: I'm getting this issue too in Windows 10.
I emailed the tech support people. They gave me a list of like 10 different things to try. The 6th worked. For me, I needed to change my resolution to 1280x720. But I would seriously recommend emailing them, they customize their suggestions based on how your system runs.
