Well, we have people that started some fan fiction on official forums and Steam forums, so you can read if you're interested. :)
The Stars of Gemini
The Gemini star system, was colonized during the Great Colonization 500 years ago, when Earth reached out to the rest of the galaxy. Now a distant memory, Earth is mentioned in history class or as a lesson in economics, because no one here has ever seen it, and it hasn’t been missed.Humans are constantly reaching for better things, and seldom look back. Now as a senior colony of Humanity, Gemini lives on under the same stresses and hopes that the original sleeper colonists must have had when they first arrived.
Chapter 1: The Rules of Gemini
Young Captain James Scot walked down the long line of ships at the shipyard. He had a ticket for a small craft, all his medium income family could afford for him. But he was smiling pretty wide as he stopped to look at a small red and white ship, very thin and pointy looking with tail engines and front mounted guns and tiny wings mounted up front. He knew the name by heart...since he named it just an hour ago for the official codes request...Lynx...a rare wild cat from the mountainous regions of his world and small, but not to be trifled with.
He added his own codes to the door along the side and walked in to the smell of new metal, plastic and leather and he smiled all the wider. His father had saved for 3 years to get him this and he offered to repay him for it when he graduated yesterday from Pilots Training School, but his dad just shook his head no and had but one request.
“ Stay alive and become a success....” He whispered as James nodded agreement while fighting back a few tears, and now today here he was, carrying his whole life in a large bag over his shoulder and a plastic computer card in his hand to open the doors and start the ships generators and get it ready for departure. His butt barely hit the command seat when the shipyard manager came on the coms and asked if he was ready to leave yet, as James laughed and said not right that second.
“I have a crew on the way when they get here we’ll go, it wont be long.” He answered as the older man grumped and agreed. The little ship wasn’t big enough to need much, just a weapons officer, a navigator, and an engineer. It was mostly automated, because humans can only see and react just SOO fast but machines had that part down pat, and in the year 3210 all they needed was supervision.
Eventually he’d need more, mostly for security or boarding and repelling boarders, but that was way down the line when he could afford monthly salaries and the equipment they’d need when they got there. As a Gunship, it was the smallest of ships allowed to carry weapons, but it had more than enough space for security personnel...up to a dozen marines or others... but that would be for when he thought they’d be needed and that wasn’t now.
Just then he heard a buzz, as he looked up at the security cameras and saw his crew waiting to enter. He went to see them and after a proper greeting, all four walked back inside.
Carl Hedges, an engineering student that graduated with him, Ben Collins, his navigator, Krystopher Rollins, his weapons officer and himself as Captain, a full sized crew for such a small but fast ship.
They put their things away and went to their posts and soon the little ship backed out of the hanger into space for the first time. The shipyard was enormous compared to this as they saw when they backed away. From their current position they couldn’t even see the whole thing, but that wasn’t necessary either, as James ordered them around and out looking for work for the first time.
“What will we do for a living, Captain, or can I ask?” Carl asked looking over his shoulder from the engineering console as James left a little laugh out, since this was bound to come up.
“Everything and anything to make a few credits...” James added as they all nodded agreement, “and yes you can ask, anything anytime, but once I answer you might not always like it.”
“Normal day working in space then,” Carl mentioned softly as James smiled and nodded agreement. They had a good amount of options...the ship had small pulse lasers on it, 3 up front, and a tractor beam for pulling in things, even towing ships. The cargo area wasn’t huge but 25 of anything has to be worth something and even asteroids, if they were rich in minerals, could be mined with the small guns.
“Lets just fly around the local area for a while...get used to the ship and controls... and see what pops up.” James added as they turned towards the nearest base and the Job Boards and Traders Floor, where hauling and delivery contracts were offered daily.
They were there in less than an hour and as they docked James pulled up the list, first for one then the other and claimed a job for delivery of 20 mining machines to an outpost 2 sectors over and as they got loaded he signed for them and they became his property, either he delivered them , or he bought them, and right now he certainly couldn’t afford that.
They backed out of the docking area and turned and laid in a new course and for the first time they opened it up and the slip stream kicked in and James smiled very wide as they ran through a space-time ‘tunnel’ for a little while, while he knew millions of miles were slipping by every second and soon they dropped back into normal space, and they turned for the station now just coming into view.
“Weapons fire off the port side,” He heard as he swore but he was quickly told they weren’t being fired at. It was a security cruiser taking its frustrations out on a pair of smaller ships...most likely smugglers...that they had caught in their territory.
“Thank the Gods...” James said as he heaved a big sigh and everyone else agreed,” on to the station best speed, we don’t want involved in any of this.” And they ran and docked and the ship’s account had a deposit in it for the first time.
Now that they had their first run under their belts he felt much better, and soon they all seemed more at ease on the bridge. There wasnt anything they could really do here, mostly large freight orders, so they backed away from the dock and went out looking for something to do, as the weapons officer said he saw cargo floating just a few hundreds miles away, and they slipped over to see what it was. The contraband had been taken, or destroyed along with at least one ship, but their weapons were left floating as well as some other supplies they were carrying. James ordered them in and after a few minutes had 15 cargo units on board and a few he decided to keep.
First he got 2 shield boosts, and he smiled that sooner or later they’d need those and everyone agreed, and 2 light beam lasers, not much better than what he already had so he figured they would get sold and he checked to see some environmental suits for chemical spills and things like that... and with uses all around stations...they were never cheap.
They turned right back around and docked again, and in less than an hour his account doubled and his ship was better off than before.
“Its been a good day,” One crewman said as James agreed.Toasting him with a cup of coffee.
“Lets hope for many more like this one,” He added as everyone agreed.
And, unfortunately, this will not be continued. I can't post another chapter, nor delete the topic cause GoG forum is not the brightest star in the galaxy. :-/
And believe me, I tried a few times.
