Hi,

I saw that the Steam edition has been recently patched to 1.9002.

When will it be available on GOG ?
On Steam it is being called Patch v1.9200. I've tried asking in the official update thread when GOG users can expect to receive the update, but there has been no response as of yet.

This is one of the disadvantages of using GOG, any game that is not of the Witcher series seems to get updates much later (sometimes not at all, KOTOR 2 for example). I really wish there could be more parity. It's this reason alone that I'm strongly considering No Man's Sky on Steam over GOG. =(

I agree our response on updates are not as fast as they should be. Then again, it's much easier to update the game on Steam, we can do it by ourselves and on GoG we have to send it to GoG team, then they check it out, repack it and then release it on their servers.

Last patch on Steam was not a big one and it will be released on GoG, but I don't have a specific date yet.

We respect our community on GoG, don't think we don't, but the concept of updating is different. GoG Galaxy should solve that at some point and speed up the process.

Firstly, I'd like to thank you for replying to this thread and say that I absolutely love Starpoint Gemini 2. It's by far my favorite spacefaring game on the market right now, and I'm looking forward to Warlords very much.

I looked into the GOG update process. It looks like GOG themselves have to build an updater each time a game is patched which ends up taking much longer. On Steam developers can directly upload the updated files which are then automatically applied to the game install. That's how it works as of now right? As you said, Galaxy should fix this by allowing developers to update their games in the same fashion as Steam, but as far as I know this has not been implemented yet.

I wasn't trying to insinuate that LGM was trying to avoid updating the GOG version or think less of the GOG community, so my apologies if my post came across that way. I was trying to point out that all GOG games receive patches much later than their Steam counterparts. It was more of a blanket statement in general towards the GOG updating process.

There is a question I would like to ask, and I understand if you can not provide any details. Are there are any plans to add the Xbox One UI/HUD in the PC version of Starpoint Gemini 2? I don't mind playing with mouse and keyboard at all, but sometimes it is nice to kick back and use the game pad. The game pad is indeed functional, but It would be nice to have a UI that's optimzied for the game pad itself. Any chance this could be added in a later patch?

Hey mcgeehe, thank you for your kind words and your support. We appreciate it a lot!

You are right on update process. GoG team is really cool and friendly, I've met some of them on last Gamescom in Germany, they have much more personal approach then Steam but the process itself takes some time. That was also the reason why we usually wait for 2-3 patches and then packed it for GoG. On Steam, when we came to Early Access, we had several patches per week, sometimes even several per day. As you said, on Steam we can push the update whenever we want it and it will automatically download to player's computers. Here is a little different.

As for UI, I will have to disappoint you. No we won't be implementing XB1 UI to PC. We wanted and we talked about it, but it's not as simple as it sounds. We redesigned the way some mechanics work for XB1 version because on PC there are dozens of different commands which would not fit on controller. So we basically changed the way things work on XB1 from camera mods, target locking, accessing panels... It's a technical problem. By the way, that was our mistake.

We are working on Starpoint Gemini Warlords which will be much bigger and we are making them with controller users in mind so it should be much better from start. Of course, there is a long way until Warlords come on GoG, since we're going to Steam Early Access first, but this time we will try to release the game on both Steam and Gog on the same day (full release of course).
@zzokalj

Thanks for clearing all of that up. It's good to have a little bit of inside knowledge when it comes to topics like this for future reference. With the current GOG updating system it's easy to understand why it would be much easier to wait for a few smaller patches to pass through Steam before releasing a bigger update to GOG a little later.

As for the UI, I was not aware that the XB1 version had been reworked to suit play with a game pad, I was thinking it was a straight port with a custom UI. Knowing this makes it easy to understand why there would be no plans to port the XB1 UI over to the PC version. SPG2 plays just fine with a game the way it is, so no worries there. Besides, I use mouse and keyboard 99% of the time anyways (which surely most PC users do). However, hearing that game pad use is being considered for PC during the development of Warlords is great news!

I really like the work that everyone at LGM is doing and fully support your efforts. Know that your hard work is very much appreciated. Keep up the good work and see you in the Warlords Early Access!
