I have found 2 opportunities in the 2nd mission and neither works. I can Shift + LMB, the avatar goes through the motions and then sits there, stuck, have to go to a save.

I have the same issue. There is on in the first level. It moves like 10% and creates the attention of other Jaffa, but then it is stuck together with the person using it.
