I can't remember the 'size' of the box that is used for the copy protection using the map when you leave starport.
For example, my challenge question is the number of Dark Blue and White stars with the bottom left corner at 20x40.

Can anyone help me figure out what the top right corner would be?

Thanks, Lance

UPDATE: I think I found it. Is it a 4x4 square? Can anyone confirm? - Thanks

Is that what that's for? I had no idea what it was asking me.
It seemed to accept the random number I put in, but I'd like to have GOG confirm this.
I read somewhere that it accepts any number, but if you tried to fake it then the space cops would pull you over and jail you. Which is absolutely hilarious, actually, but could be awkward in a legal release.
I contacted GOG support about this, hopefully they'll be able to confirm the actual size of the device. I'll post their response here when I hear back.
I actually have my copy of the original games (both 1 & 2).

The actual size of the window opening for the SF2 decoder is 2"x2". The red squares on the map should be .5"

Hope this helps.

Heh, I've been putting in zero for my answer each time because I thought it was just the one square. I have yet to see any space police show up. I remember seeing them when I played the game a couple decades ago. It lets you go for a while before they show up to arrest you. After all this time, it's still absolutely the best copy protection / game demo method I've seen! :D

Too true. I'd recommend this method to any game developer.

Thanks for the information, this agrees with what I heard from GOG support. They said the copy device is 4x4 grid squares. I may try putting a deliberately wrong answer in eventually to see what happens, but for my first game I'd hate to have anything too nasty pop up.
I've been told entering the number 34789 will bypass any copy protection codes, and I use it all the time in my games and have yet to run into any problems.
