Could someone help me understand this security code? I am reading the directions( fried from overwork and overstudy I admit) and I can't figure it out.
I can't get the code from Starflight 2 either. I'm suppposed to put a device on a map...
I just followed the coordinates in the starmap and counted the number of stars of the color in question in the 4 adjacent quadrants. I entered the two number (two colours?) without a space in between and it worked.
I did it only once though since I stared playing SF1, but you might give it a try.

Hrm... I'll try that. I know from the original Starflight (which I owned for the C64) that if you input the wrong code, it would still let you out of the dock, though. The ISP would show up later, and chase you around.

EDIT! I found out what the copy protection was! It's a 4x4 square. So you look up coordinate, and use that as the corner, then count up the number of stars specified in that area, inputting the total (e.g. 2 red and 3 blue means you type in a 5.)

Seriously, I have no idea how to interpret gog's instructions on how to find the security code for Starflight 1. Can anyone explain?

Short version:
When you are ready to launch, hit the Windows button or Alt-Enter so that you can access windows.
Find the SF code generator and enter the names of the planet, artifact, and race as requested. The code generator will return a number up to 5 digits.
Go back to your starflight game and enter that 5-digit number. It will ask you if you are sure and hit the right arrow key for yes.

[IIRC} If you have it wrong, it will ask you if you are sure - You better double-check.
If, in fact you do have it wrong, the cops will pull you over and you will have to go through the same procedure to generate a code.

--------------

Long version: I can explain it better when I get home.

In the old days, the game came in a box - and in the box was a code wheel. Before you launch from Starport, they asked for a code for you to type in. They give you:

- The name of a planet
- The name of an artifact
- The name of a race

In the old days, you would line up the name of the planet with the name of the artifact on the code wheel. The names of the races were open boxes displaying a code number up to 5 digits. You look up the code number corresponding to the name of the race you were given and give that number in reply.

The gog version does not come with a code wheel. Instead there is another program that comes with the gog package where you enter the names of the planet, artifact, and race and it will return the number you need to respond with.
