Hello all, I hope you are having a beautiful day. Does anyone know where I can find the save files for starflight on Mac OS X? I can't find the location described for windows systems. Also, does Starflight 2 have the same saving issues and permadeath as the first game? Thanks so much for any help.
i have the same issue with mac version - cant figure out how to save a prior game and return to it on MAC OSX. tried some of the things suggested and it didnt work. ive lost 2 games in progress and had to start over twice already. dont want to play a third time without having the save game thing figured out.

Also, i am having trouble changing the speed on mac OSX - as many have noted, when you land on a planet the lifeforms move a mile a minute and attack your crew before you can react. also, in an alien encounter, the ships move wildly around. i had the original starflight back in the day and i know they are suppose to move MUCH slower. ive tried control F11 and control f12, but neither seeem to do anything.

HELP!
Hello,
I'm a new Mac user, but if the post in the other topic that mentions the save files as being stara.com and starb.com is correct, you can find those files by doing the following:
Right-click on the Starflight 1 file and go to "Show Package Contents"
Open the sub-folder "Contents"
Open the sub-folder "Resources"
Right-click on the Starflight 1.boxer file and go to "Show Package Contents"
Open the folder "C Starflight 1.harddisk"
Open the sub-folder "STARFLT"
Open the sub-folder "START" and you ought to find all the save files in there.
I have no idea how reliable this is.

Anyway, to save the game, hit Esc and a menu should come up allowing you to save the game. It ought to automatically load the next time you start.

To increase or decrease CPU cycles in DOSBox, I press fn + control + command + F11 to slow down and F12 to speed up.

Note : Due to the forum preventing me from typing in the actual names of files I've replaced the periods with slashes, such as this /. So the name of the file Current/boxerstate, which is your Starflight save game on Mac OS X, simply replace the slash with a period.

For those using Mac OS X (Mountain Lion), the entire Starflight game is saved as one small file named Current/boxerstate. It’s in a folder named com/gog/starflight-1. There’s just one problem: the Mac is literally hiding that entire folder from you. It really doesn’t matter why because all you want to do is make backups of your game. So here's how to do that.

Here’s the steps to grab the Mac OS X Starflight save file:

1. Click on your Finder or bring up any folder on your Mac.
2. At the top of your Mac’s screen, showing that folder’s menu should be options such as File, Edit, View, Go, Window, Help. Click the menu option Go.
3. The menu Go should expand to list several locations such as Desktop, Downloads, Home, Computer. Press the option key on your keyboard and keep it pressed in. A new location should appear - named Library. If you release the option key Library disappears. Don’t let go of the option key yet.
4. With the option key pressed in, click the mouse on Library.
5. Now the current folder should open to your personal Library on the Mac, which is normally invisible. Please bear with me and open the following folders in this order.
6. Application Support
7. Boxer
8. Gamebox States
9. com/gog/starflight-1 (or com/gog/starflight-2)
10. (the actual Starflight save file) Current/boxerstate

To make a Starflight backup just copy Current/boxerstate. To load a backup game, just drag the backup you want to play into this folder and select “replace” when it gives you the option. That will be the game loaded when you next run Starflight.

Since the file and the folder were so hard to find, after step 8 I simply dragged the com/gog/starflight-1 folder to my left sidebar. Then I did the same with a folder for saved Starflight games. Now I can backup or load a Starflight game by just clicking on the left side of any Mac window, drag and drop.

Hope this helps.
