Jonesy89: When part of the service provided by GOG is the sale of software in a condition that ensures it will work on modern rigs, though, that concern is a lot less frivolous than what you seem to be intimating. Messing around with that stuff back in the day might have been the status quo, but GOG sells games that are supposedly patched so that we don't have to deal with that stuff anymore.
In this case "fixing" the game would take rewriting code and compiling in modern machines, you can't expect GOG to do that. The original developer is certainly not going to do it either, and the game's fan community has not being able to do anything about it so far, so it's either playing as is or not at all. If you are unsatisfied with the situation take it up to GOG, but don't expect a game modification.
