I bought the pack, because I was delighted to see an ancient game that for once I remembered and loved!

Aaaaand I'm really confused. I played something that looked like this. My copy I'm trying to run on my netbook - well, StarFlight 2 is pixelated beyond belief, and StarFlight 1 won't even show up, it just crashes my netbook. I'm about to try them on this machine, but can anyone help me figure out what's wrong? I can't even tell if I bought the wrong game, or what? (the spaceman in StarFlight 2 looks totally different from the one in the game I used to play, even if he is a little pixelated. I mean, it's pretty blatantly not the same game, so what did I play?)

So...this huge mess of text is simply asking what I actually may have played, and is there a way to make what I bought look like that? Or is it a different game? And why won't StarFlight 1 work on my netbook?

Update: The first game doesn't work any better on this machine. It looks like four rows, with the top row having two miniscule heavily pixilated versions of the screen, the second row having three copies, and the third and fourth rows black emptiness. Oddly, the title credits and clever copyright warning display just fine. Oh, and hitting escape crashed DosBox on this computer, too.

StarFlight 2, on the other hand, runs fine but is still tremendously ugly. I'm consulting google! :D

Update #2: It seems I played a Sega Genesis version, which accounts for the much better looking graphics. Now if only I could get Starflight 1 to work!

The video you posted shows Genesis version. DOS one is, well compare yourself.

For the games not working - did you try switching graphic mode or changing DOSBox cycles?

Heh, but the core game is nonetheless fantastic!

...and EGA (I wonder what that is, anyway?) works, but it told me there was a game in progress and threw me out. I think the other thread said something about that, brb.

By the way - stunningly prompt response! Thank you so much for your help!

edit: I found the tools section and started a new game from there! What a nice feature to include :D

As usual, GOG comes through. Thanks for bringing this classic to us! <3

ENhanced Graphics Adapter (EGA), a whopping 16 colors which brought the PC up to the graphic capability of a commodore 64. A big deal back in the day. and a big step up from CGA (Color Graphics Adapter, 4 colors). I built a number of premium machines for customers using that high-tech... then VGA came a took over with games the likes of WIng Commander and Wolfenstein 3D. :)

My memory always has these games looking far better than they do now. Still, I am so glad GoG is around to provide these memories. I never finished SF1 and never played 2. I plan on knocking both out this time.

Thank you for the interesting information! :D

Always neat to hear about stuff like that. And you're right, I picked up a cartridge for SMB on the Gameboy Color the other day. My memory had it looking far more incredible. Still amazing to play, though.
Didn't believe that anything could look worse than a Genesis game?
Just be grateful - most games that look like this nowadays are specific to two cores, two gigs of RAM and Win 7 ONLY.
To be fair there was a good five years between the PC original and the Sega port.

I was pooping happiness to find the Genesis version last week.
Didn't know that the PC versions even existed but GOG must've heard my flatulent praising.
Just like I remember for all the Wait-for-key-press events, still have my codewheel, but planetside where real time takes over events run too way too fast. Storms and aliens just appear too fast for action or right next to us and wipe out the crew. Tried some different DOSBOX video settings but this may be from the CPU speed and not the GPU. Anyone know of some settings to try next?
Played Starflight 1 for several weeks and then got killed by the Interstel Police.

ALWAYS saved the game and only had one failure using the codewheel application (which was resolved on a retry).

Is the copy (Starflight 1 + 2) a legal copy?

(Running with Windows 7 Professional, 32 bit version).

Note: Had to restart a new game which also was a pain.
