Is it possible to sell your old and now unused tools somewhere? I've upgraded the starting fishing rod to another one, but can't sell the old one anywhere.

Is there a way to deal with the hordes of flying devils in the mines? I've got to level 13-14, and every time I try to go down there the screen turns green, and I get overwhelmed with hordes upon hordes of flying creatures. I've purchased the wooden sword. Try to eat food or run away, escape with the main ladder, but often I just die due to getting crazily overwhelmed.

First winter in a week, so will try to do more in the mines then as presumably there isn't a whole lot else to do. But so far this has been incredibly daunting! The slimes are okay, I can deal with those, but a jillion flies with no way to block or protect yourself is pretty darn brutal so early in the game.
OMG. This might help! :D

Out fishing and got a treasure chest. Took a screenshot but apparently it didn't 'take' as the content is missing. It had a much better sword: Neptune's Gaive (18-35 damage!!), a diamond, 6 gold ores, and an artifact. By far the best I've ever gotten in one of these things.

Hopefully I can survive in the darn mines now.

Short of putting them in a chest where npcs walk, there is no way to get rid of old fishing rods. And that destroys the chest too, so might as well toss them in your nightstand and forget them forever, nobody will give you money for them.

That new sword might have solved your fly problem entirely, its so nice when the biggest menance of a new game suddely turns into an easy source of free bait just by getting a better weapon.

The nothing-to-do-in-winter angle is quite exaggerated, only wild seeds to plant but otherwise you can do all the same things as in other seasons.
Thanks for confirming I can't sell these extra tools, which also seems to apply to slings, as the Adventurer's Mart won't buy them either (they will buy swords though). I suffer from the usual RPG-illness of horde-it-all, but sounds like there is little point other than to bin these unsellable items.

First winter was actually a great relief. No longer did I have the daily chores of energy-tough watering the farms and suchlike, and could spend much more time exploring (including the mines with the new excellent weapon), talking more with people, fishing, and clearing out some more land. Oh, and upgrading some tools.

Uploaded the farm to https://upload.farm. Looks more like a wild forest, but small steps :)

Not in desperate need for funds, and I dislike all these crops that can't regrow after first harvest, so may actually have less crops now than for most of the first spring. Will probably expand more in summer, when iirc, there were more crops that would enable more harvests without re-seeding. The Gold Watering can is excellent -- especially when I by sheer accident discovered I could water 3x3 tiles =) But although the quality sprinkler looks fairly underwhelming, it may be worth it to make some of those. Look forward to iridium sprinklers, but looks darn hard to get your hands on iridium.
